Note: ACS does not offer an academy-wide travel experience for juniors. These learning adventures focused on the Native American experience are offered only to 11th graders from who are enrolled in the American Studies course. In 2022-23, the travel opportunity is open to all students enrolled in the Advanced Placement World History course. Students may select one of these optional travel opportunities, as spots on each trip are limited.
AMERICAN SOUTHWEST
Destination:
Albuquerque and Santa Fe, New Mexico
Trip Dates: dates TBD (late spring)

Overview: After a school year of exploring topics of American identity and impact in U.S. History and English III/AP Lang, students will travel to New Mexico for an incredible experience in the Southwest region of the United States. Highlights of the trip include a visit to the Acoma Sky Pueblo, service learning and cultural exchange with the To'hajiilee Navajo people, an interpretive river float with Pueblo guides down the Rio Grande River, a stunning hike with a geologist at the Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument, time exploring historic Santa Fe, and a visit to the Anasazi ruins of Bandelier National Monument.

Students will fly to Albuquerque to begin their southwest adventure. From there they will take coach buses throughout the Abluquerque and Santa Fe areas on their exploration and study of this beautiful area of the country. They will be accompanied by local guides during the trip who will give valuable information on what they are learning.
